Annual reports for Fair Work Commission

It is challenging for the Commission to speak clearly about what it is and what it does

The Commission's heritage is highly legalistic and it lives by the strict letter of the Fair Work Act and other legislation. As a result, the Commission tends to speak in legal terminology that is often not accessible to a wider audience.

We assisted the Commission with written content and a series of reports and video case studies for its 2014 and 2015 annual reports. We created content that is engaging, understandable and compliant with government reporting requirements.

Award-winning annual reports

The judges at the Institute of Public Administration Australia (ACT) said that the Commission triumphed over the challenge of speaking clearly with its 2014 annual report, for which we were content lead.

The report won the highest award given to any federal department or agency — the silver award, in a year where the gold was not awarded. The judges made particular reference to the innovative presentation of our case studies, both in writing and as videos.

The 2015 annual report was recognised with a silver award in the Australasian Reporting Awards.

Case studies

We delivered nine case studies for the 2014 report and ten for the 2015 annual report.  These case studies brought the Commission ‘to life’, with videos accessed through links in the online report or website addresses and QR codes in the printed reports.
